Kheiron is the name of a centaur (half human/half horse) in Greek mythology. In contrast to his wild, barbarian centaur brothers, Kheiron was intelligent and wise. He was a symbol of the synthesis of emotion and reason, of the animal and the human.
Aside from being a master in the art of medicine, he was an astrologer and honoured oracle. He was known for his great capacities as the teacher of, amongst others, Asclepius, the founder of Western medicine.
Kheiron literally means: “educated, skilled hands”.
